Ballroom (ages 7+)

Ballroom dancing is a partnership dance but can also be taught to an individual. Ballroom dancing consists of two styles: the Smooth, or Standard, and the Rhythm, or Latin. The Smooth, Standard style focuses on the elegance, grace and fluidity of movement. Dancers rotate in a counter-clockwise direction, moving around the entire floor. The couple is constantly moving on the dance floor, transitioning from one place to the next in a fixed pattern. The Foxtrot, Waltz, Tango, Viennese Waltz and Quickstep are danced in this manner.

The Rhythm, Latin style focuses on a display of vibrant energy and a personal flair. The dancing pattern is syncopated to the rhythm of the music. The couple usually dances in one spot of the dance floor. Included in this style are the East Coast Swing, Jive, Rumba, Bolero, Cha Cha, Mambo, Samba and Paso Doble.

This class serves as an introduction to hip-hop dance for the younger student. Using games and music, the class focuses on rhythm, musicality, and basic footwork. Lyrical

(2nd - 12th

Lyrical dance is a style that combines ballet and jazz dancing techniques. It is performed to music with lyrics so that it inspires the expression of strong emotions the choreographer feels from the lyrics of the song. This style concentrates on an individual approach and expressiveness of such emotions as love, joy, hurt, or anger. It does not concentrate on the dancer’s precision of movement. The origins of Lyrical dance are difficult to pinpoint. It seems to have emerged from the entertainment world, where dancers began mixing jazz with ballet. Although Lyrical dance takes from ballet and jazz styles, it is not as physically demanding as these styles. There is less concentration on precision and more on individual style. This enables more people to explore this modern style – people with different body types, different experiences, and different ages. When learning a lyrical dance, it is important and helpful to have a solid background in at least ballet, if not also jazz or other styles of modern dance.

Our competitive team classes are designed for experienced dancers to take their dance careers to the next level! These classes will allow dancers to compete and take their technique to new heights!!

We are incredibly passionate about dance, so we offer more performance opportunities for students who can’t get enough. Our competition program is designed to help them learn discipline and teamwork and achieve their personal best. This competition team allows our students to show their dedication to dance and build a higher level of leadership, self-confidence, and self-reliance. We hope to instill in our students an appreciation for other dancers and teachers through participation in competitions and conventions. We intend to motivate and inspire them by exposing them to the highest level of talent available. Being part of a team requires a more serious time commitment, additional expenses, and dedication beyond the normal year.

Placement on our competition teams is by invitation and audition only. The invitation and newly formed class placements are based on the previous year’s evaluations of a student’s technique, ability, dedication, showmanship, and accomplishment.
